Materials
- Resin Bases
- 1/8” diameter by 1/16” high N35 Rare Earth Magnets
- Ruler
- 25mm GW plastic base
- 1/8” drill bit
- Permanent Marker
- Hand Drill and/or Dremel
- Super Glue
- Rubber Gloves
Step 1: Measure, mark
and drill a 1/8” hole ¼” off the corner of a standard GW base to create a template. Place the template on the bottom of the resin
base and mark the locations with a permanent marker. For the 25mm resin bases shown below I went
with 2 magnets in opposite corners.
Step 2: Drill a 1/8”
hole using a Dremel at the locations marked for each magnet. Be careful not to drill through the
base.
Step 3: Measure the
depth of the hole with a stack of magnets.
You want the hole to be slightly deeper than one magnet to give space
for the glue. If the hole is not deep
enough I recommend using a hand drill to finish the hole to avoid going to deep
or inadvertently going through the base.
Step 4: Apply a small
amount of Super Glue into each hole. I
prefer to use a brand of glue that has a package that allows for more precise
application.
Step 5: Place a stack of magnets into the each hole. Slide the stack horizontally across the
surface to leave one magnet remaining in each hole. Wipe a gloved finger across each magnet to
ensure that they are flush with the bottom of the base. Also, it’s preferable to orient all the
magnets in the same direction.

A good way to do depth is to use a depth lock collar or just a piece of tape wrapped around the drill to let you know when to stop.
